We are a group of business-educated people and industry professionals who are excited about using our accumulated acumen to alleviate global poverty.
Currently we are working to establish a high-quality, cooperative based wine industry in Ethiopia that will help improve the lives of local farmers.
Sandhya Deshetty, Founder and Executive Director
Sandhya is a recent MBA graduate of Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. Terrified of being confined to a cubicle and frustrated by too many feasible solutions to poverty going overlooked, she founded SPARC Development to make sure that this particular idea is not wasted. Sandhya is currently leading the planning, fundraising, and overall management of the Ethiopian wine project.
She entered business school with non-profit experience in program design and management, and fundraising. With a firm understanding of non-profit management, Sandhya will also draw on her numerous experiences with the social enterprise program at Goizueta Business School, which included helping develop a program in Nicaragua and consulting for a nascent social enterprise based in India. Sandhya also serves as President of the Board of Directors for Comunidad Connect, a non-profit focused on community development in Nicaragua.
Peter Roberts, Wine Economist and Founding Member of Board of Directors
Professor Peter Roberts will serve as an active adviser and contributor to the Ethiopian wine project, and formally as a member of SPARC’s Board of Directors. Roberts is currently a professor of Organization and Management at Goizueta Business School. His research interests include global wine markets and the evolution of organizations. Peter’s Ph.D. is from the University of Alberta. Prior to serving in his current position, Peter served on the faculties of Columbia University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Australian Graduate School of Management.
